If I Could Write a Letter To Me...

Inspired by the gorgeous Little Miss Momma, I decided to write a letter to me.  This letter would have to be sent to me when I was between 17-21.

Dear 17-21 year old Suzie,

First of all, you will learn to love the name 'Suzie' and prefer it over Susan any day.

It's okay that your best friends were at different high schools or not in high school yet.  You'll realize that these best friends will always be the best friends you'll ever have.  Years will go by without speaking to them, but when you 'reunite' it'll feel like you've never been apart.

You'll meet a few girlfriends that you'll grow very close with and they will remain in your heart, but they will be nothing like the Fab Five. - none of your grown up friends will care that you didn't have many friends in High School.  They'll probably laugh at pictures of you, but they don't care.  High School does not determine the rest of your life.

It's not cool to be a Negative Nancy.  I don't care who the 'Skater Boy' was that made you think cynicism was totally awesome, it's not.  Just because you dye your hair black for fun doesn't mean you have to be dark on the inside.  This is just a phase and life will get better.  You are in control of your actions and reactions; there is no one else to blame.

God is there, you just have to reach for Him.  Don't expect Him to do all the work.

Remember that guy you dated off and on for 3 years?  He's so not worth it.  He's not worth the pain, he's not worth feeling badly about yourself, and he's not worth the countless nights of binge drinking.  Don't let this relationship determine how you view other men (one man in particular) in your future.  That boy will be NOTHING compared to the man  you'll meet soon after.  In fact, you'll forget every single reason you loved him in the first place.  But, don't forget that he taught you how to love.

And that man you'll meet?  Don't rush it.  He's been hurt, too.  Don't take it personally when he tells you he's not ready for a relationship; he will be.  He will love you better than you know.  Oh, his ways of showing love are not what you're used to, but remember that the 'love' you're used to also cheated on you, disrespected you, and made you feel like crap (this is kind of a note to last week's Suzie, too).

That man will give you greatest 'oopsidaisy' of all time.  And that 'oopsidaisy' is the cutest, sweetest, most adorable little boy ever.

Stay true to yourself.  Be happy and talk about your love for Jesus.  Someone else might need to hear it.

I love you!

Sincerely 26-year-old,
